I visited Mechelen a few weeks ago, a
town in the province of Antwerp. There was a beautiful city square with
different buildings surrounding it. The main attraction was the
Sint-Romboutskathedraal (cathedral) which was located in the centre near the
square. The huge building with its fascinating architecture made for a great
backdrop behind some of the buildings in the square.
I took the Diljepad – a path which runs
along the Dijle river – and admired the different buildings and calm water. It
was a nice little town with just enough to see in a day (or less). There also
happened to be a fantastic book shop which had a huge variety of books and a
nice layout of them.
Mechelen is a nice town for a day trip,
but not worth it if you’re only in Belgium for a few days. I did however enjoy
the smallness of the town.
