Mechelen | Belgium

Seeing more of Belgium has been my main goal these past few weeks. That means that I go to big cities, small towns, lovely parks, museums and strange monuments. Most of the places are the same and completely opposite at the same time. The towns and cities have beautiful buildings, cathedrals, churches and shops all waiting to be visited.

I visited Mechelen a few weeks ago, a town in the province of Antwerp. There was a beautiful city square with different buildings surrounding it. The main attraction was the Sint-Romboutskathedraal (cathedral) which was located in the centre near the square. The huge building with its fascinating architecture made for a great backdrop behind some of the buildings in the square.

I took the Diljepad – a path which runs along the Dijle river – and admired the different buildings and calm water. It was a nice little town with just enough to see in a day (or less). There also happened to be a fantastic book shop which had a huge variety of books and a nice layout of them.

Mechelen is a nice town for a day trip, but not worth it if you’re only in Belgium for a few days. I did however enjoy the smallness of the town.
