Zeitz Museum | Cape Town | 2017

27 December 2017 - The Zeitz Museum is the new addition to art museums in South Africa. Located in Cape Town, the Museum of African Contemporary Art (also known as the MOCCA) features a variety of artworks from different artists in Africa. The building used to be a grain silo built in 1921. It now serves as a museum, hotel and restaurant. I had a vague idea of what to expect due to an article in the ViSi magazine, I instantly fell in love with the museum. Little did I know I would be visiting it a month later when I stayed with a friend in Cape Town.

We waited in a very long row before we entered the 97-year-old building (going in peak season might not be the best idea if you like looking at art in peace and quiet). The building itself is art, with shapes cut from the exterior to make the building more inviting. At the top the hotel widows catches the, giving the so a refined touch. I suggest visiting the hotel website and have a peek at the hotel rooms, because they are exquisite with decor to die for.

Once inside we soaked in the first art which hung from the ceiling, a dragon phantom type creature glared down at everyone. Each level had different art; and the first level was probably my favourite. The art was very diverse from each other, with paintings, sculptures, statues, film, photography and various other mediums present. Accompanied by various colours and elements everything came together to create an ambience atmosphere.

I definitely recommend this museum to all art lovers! If you like art but don’t love it, rather have a peek on the museum website before deciding to visit.
