#4 | Rooftops & Roads | Prague | Czech Rebublic

After the walking tour and the tour to Kutna Hora the previous two days, it was time to see what else the city of Prague had to offer. I was lucky enough to make a friend at the hostel while we had breakfast and we soon decided to explore together. There were a few places we wanted to see, but for the rest we just walked to see what waited down different streets.

We headed across the Charles Bridge in the direction of the castle. There are a few ways to get to the top where the castle and cathedral sit and watch over Prague. We took the one which went between some buildings and had a scenic route most of the way. The castle itself doesn’t look much like a castle, but rather a long fancy row of buildings. We walked through the castle grounds to St. Vitus cathedral, but didn’t go into the caste itself. The cathedral is surrounded by the castle and was magnificent and unforgettable. It is possible to walk all the way around and go inside. To me the most beautiful part was the back of the cathedral which was decorated with different spires and sculptures. The facts that it was so different from the castle design also made it look unreal. As f someone had dropped it in the middle of the castle.

Our way down was just as scenic, which even a broader and more beautiful panorama of Prague. The river and the bridges were nestled next to the rusted red rooftops. The church towered peaked out and the trees tried to get part of the show. The weather and view was so refreshing that we spent quite some time just admiring it.

We had lunch at a Czech restaurant. I had the most delicious asparagus soup with bread and potato dumplings. The Czech people really know how to make good dumplings. My friend tried the selection of three sausages and potato with some sort of meat (I think it was pork). Of course beer was involved. I had a “creme” beer which had more foam than actually beer, but was just as good. In the afternoon we ended up at the Lennon wall. The wall is decorated by graffiti, names and John Lennon and Beatles inspired art and quotes. It’s very artistic and inspiring and worth the visit.

We ended the day with some beer at a comic bar where they were playing rock music. It was so different that any other bar I’ve been before. It had quite a unique feel and look to it. It was a really lovely day and it was great to have some company for a change.
