Luxembourg City | Luxembourg

Early afternoon we arrived in Luxembourg City. Instead of arriving in a peaceful city we arrived in a buzzing city. Apparently the Sunday we were visiting was some sort of religious holiday, the sun was out and there was a carnival/ market going on. People were everywhere; some dressed formally others in religious costume. It was quite interesting to see so much diversity in one place. After months of cold and people staying inside it was different to be surrounded by so many people. a lot of the people were walking with their dogs which made me very happy.

Our drop-off point overlooked nature below, with a bridge and a Hogwarts looking building. I was amazed at the green and lushness of the areas below. The tour started at a church which was packed with people waiting for the ceremony to begin. Children were dressed in robes with crosses around their necks and elderly were neatly dressed all looking ready for church. The tour was a bit everywhere due to a parade which was also taking place. The main square had a market selling all kinds of food, treats and items.

We were taking through some parts of the city and then to a beautiful view of the older part of the city. We descended down some steps and streets until we were at a peaceful river with trees and old buildings. There we stopped and listened to an interesting story about a mermaid which was represented by an interesting purple mermaid. Our tour moved through a crowd of people listening to live music and entered into a beautiful cobbled street and then we were on our own, able to explore and get a bit lost.

My friend and I headed back up with a lift and then to the market. We bought some noodles in a box and spring rolls and ten headed down a lot of steps until we were in the park area below. It was relaxing and beautiful. Everything was radiant and alive. Joggers passed us as we ate and enjoyed nature.
I was happy that I could experience some more natural nature which didn’t consist of a park with mowed lawn. I think it makes the city worth visiting. We didn’t spend a long time in the city, but we spend enough time for me to know that I like it and will visit again, next time not on a Sunday and for a longer period of time.
