Boulder's Beach & Other Areas | South Africa | 2017

30 December 2017 - We visited three beaches; the first was a beach near Boulder’s Beach. Here we swam for a long time in a natural tidal pool. I don’t usually swim, but even I couldn’t resist the cool water. After some time in the salty water walked to Boulder’s Beach, which is known for its penguins. We didn’t go onto the beach itself; we followed a path leading through some of the terrain where the penguins live. It was a lovely walk, with bushes and trees on sides, a few penguins stood around and we even spotted a beaver.

Afterwards we drove along Simon’s Town, further out to the mountains and took a turn to another beach. I have no idea what the name is, but it was breathtaking. The area was quiet, with less people and nature all around. Large boulders and dunes surrounded the blue waters, with misty mountains at the back. I wouldn’t have minded spending more time there, but the day was coming to an end.

Our group split up, those who were tired went home and the rest of us searched for another place to swim. After some driving we parked next to a busy street, walked down some stairs and arrived at a small path of sand, surrounded by rocks and a large tidal pool, the ocean beyond. Far away in the distance the mountain stood on the other side of the large expanse of water. The pool was beautiful, with mussels and shells stuck to the sides. The Cape water is quite cold, but definitely worth it.
