The
daytrip to Lille, France would have taken place a few weeks back, but then the
whole Paris bombing started and the trip had to be moved to a different date. A
date which happened to be falling into the Christmas market time - which meant
Christmas vibes all round.
There
was a main Christmas market where all the gifts and food were sold and then a
few other which had carnival rides and games, as well as some fantastic décor and
a huge Christmas tree. All types of gifts could be found at the market, and
although there were the Christmas market basics, there were also very interesting
stalls with unique items. One of my favourites stalls selling different items
made by Indians from Canada and I had to force myself not to buy some beautiful
decorated crystals. There wasn’t a big variety of food available. There were
pretzels, pizza bread and then some meat dishes. As for the sweet stuff, there
were more options from crepes to chocolate.
For
beverages there was obviously gluhwein and I obviously had some. As well as
pear cinder which consisted of a hot pear drink and I can say that it was one
of the best beverages I’ve ever had. It was non-alcohol, but could be changed
to alcoholic.
The other
locations with rides were also worth passing by. Even though we didn’t go on
any of the rides, it was nice to see people enjoy themselves and it made for
some great vibes. I even had a realisation that it was snowing, but turned out
to be fake snow. We later on found the machine and spend a few minutes standing
to become covered, only to find out after we moved on that it was ice. It made
sense afterwards why we were the only ones standing, but no regrets because it
was a great moment to have a real part on Christmas winter for a few moments –
before it melted.
Overall
the Christmas market was also one of my favourites. It had a different atmosphere
than the previous ones and I assume it had to do with the part that it was in France.
It definitely gave the city more character than it already had.
