The Belfort in Ghent was another place we vitiated that exceeded my expectations. We walked up the tower which took some time and energy, but gave beautiful views in return. At the top you could go to the ledge and see the full panoramic view of Ghent.
The mechanism which made the bell ring was also open to the public and it was fascinating to see. The Belfort, next to the canal cruise and Gravensteen castle is one of the best attractions for tourists, especially if you want to see the best view of Ghent. I should also mention that there is a lift which we took down, because we were exhausted after the eventful day.
A souvenir shop at the entrance had some interesting stuff. One of my favourite items they had, were cards made by a local illustrator. If you are interested in her work you can check out her etsy page.
