Elftopia | Belgium | 2016

13+14 August 2016 - Imagine a day in which you get to dress up, stroll around on castle grounds and being entertained by live music, Elftopia made this possible. Last year my friend and I attended this fantastical weekend, it took place a few weeks ago, but we’re not in Belgium anymore. I thought I’d still share last year’s experience to get all the nostalgic memories into word format.

It was finally the perfect event to dress up as a faun, although my horns broke off before we even made it to the castle, still manages to pull off a woodlands maiden look. My friend, Shannon, dressed as a goddess, fitting right in with the weekend’s magical vibes. After a long and bumpy bus ride, we made it to the small town where the Ooidonk castle was situated.

A long road with lush trees on both sides took us to the front gates. On the right side was the stage was set up on a spacious lawn next to a lake, to the left were tents selling various objects and further on was the majestically castle. Various tents and areas were also dedicated to activities, like costume hiring, sword fights, food and merchandise.

Inside the castle walls was the outdoor cafeteria, selling food and drinks. Around the castle was a moat and lush green lawn, with paths and beautiful rose gardens. Background music made the atmosphere even more magical.

We strolled around, ate, took photos and enjoyed the entertainment. It was relaxing and fun at the same time, which is a very welcoming combonation.
